Voting Information

TO BE ELIGIBLE TO VOTE IN POLK COUNTY YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OF AGE, A U.S. CITIZEN, AND A RESIDENT OF POLK COUNTY.  SIXTEEN YEAR OLDS MAY PRE-REGISTER AND RECEIVE THEIR CARD IN THE MAIL AFTER THEIR 18TH BIRTHDAY.

The Florida voter registration application is used to register to vote, make changes to your voter registration record and request a replacement voter ID.  Florida law requires that a new registration must include the required voter registration information, and the document must have an original signature.  It is permitted under Florida Statute to reproduce the state voter registration application, provided that the format and size is the same as the state registration application.

If you need to obtain an original voter registration application, you may obtain one at any of the following locations:

The Supervisor of Elections Office, all Department of Motor Vehicles Offices, all Public Assistance Offices, Public Libraries, City Halls, most banks, savings and loans, mobile home parks, retirement centers, schools, and major businesses throughout Polk County. You may also call the Supervisor of Elections Office or e-mail us to have a form mailed to you. Click here for a printable application, or click here for an on-line application.

Simply fill in the application and either mail it or deliver it to any elections office.  A single registration allows a citizen to vote in city, county, district, state, and federal elections.

Convicted felons, or those judged incompetent by the court, may not register to vote until their civil rights have been restored. Click here to contact the Office of Executive Clemency, to inquire about having your civil rights restored.

WHERE TO VOTE

Florida law requires that you vote in the precinct where you live.  Your voter information card shows the precinct, polling place and voting districts for your address.  If you move within the county, you must vote in your new precinct.  The polls are open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm on election day.  Do not return to your old precinct to vote. If you are unsure of your correct precinct, click here to look it up or call our office at (863) 534-5888, and we will give you your precinct number and location.  If you already know your precinct number, browse the list of precincts for location information.

Important Reminder!  It is unlawful to vote in a precinct where you do not live on election day.

POLLING PLACE PROCEDURES

Voters going to the polls will be asked to show two forms of identification: one is signature identification and second is photo identification

The identification can be in one form, such as a Florida driver's license, which includes a signature and a photo.  Or, it can be two separate forms of identification--for example, an employee-issued ID card with a photo, and a credit card with a signature.

If you do not have two forms of identification, you must cast a provisional ballot.  Your ballot will not be counted at the polls, but will be sealed inside a certificate envelope and submitted to the Canvassing Board after the polls close.  The Canvassing Board will review the information provided on the certificate envelope and determine whether the ballot may be counted.

NOTE:  A voters information card is not authorization to vote.  If you are not currently active on the registration rolls, you must re-register in Polk County.

TYPES OF ACCEPTABLE PHOTO ID INCLUDE:

  • Florida Driver's License
  • Florida Identification Card
  • U.S. Passport
  • Military ID Card
  • Debit/Credit Cards
  • Student ID Card
  • Retirement Center ID Card
